AI Policy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy

Oxton Science Journal

The Oxton Science Journal establishes guidelines for the ethical, responsible, and transparent use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the production, submission, peer review, and publication of scientific manuscripts.

Given the increasing adoption of machine learning technologies and large language models, it is essential to ensure scientific integrity, intellectual originality, and the reliability of published results.

1. Definition of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence refers to any system capable of generating, modifying, or analyzing content automatically, including language models, predictive algorithms, and tools designed to support scientific writing and data analysis.

2. Permitted Use

  • Grammar and language editing;
  • Improvement of clarity and writing style;
  • Structural organization of manuscripts;
  • Support for programming and data analysis;
  • Exploratory assistance in literature review.

3. Mandatory Disclosure

Authors must explicitly disclose the use of AI tools, including:

  • Name of the tool used;
  • Purpose of use;
  • Level of contribution to the manuscript.
Example:
“An AI tool was used exclusively for linguistic revision, without interference in scientific analysis.”

4. Prohibited Use

  • Full manuscript generation without human supervision;
  • Fabrication or manipulation of data;
  • Creation of non-existent results;
  • Insertion of fictitious references;
  • Replacement of intellectual authorship.

5. Responsibility

Authors retain full responsibility for the submitted content. AI tools cannot be considered authors, as they do not meet the criteria for scientific accountability.

6. Use by Reviewers

Reviewers must preserve manuscript confidentiality and should not upload content into AI systems that store or reuse data. AI use must remain auxiliary and must not replace critical scholarly judgment.

7. Use by the Editorial Team

The editorial team may employ AI tools for manuscript screening, similarity checking, and operational support. However, all editorial decisions remain exclusively human responsibilities.

8. Sanctions

  • Manuscript rejection;
  • Article retraction;
  • Institutional notification;
  • Suspension of future submissions.

9. Mandatory Statement in the Article

All manuscripts must include the section: “Artificial Intelligence Use Statement.”
